MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY/TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY AGENCY
ID HOTELIER - Yogyakarta, February 4th 2023 - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of
Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, expects that the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) will provide several policy recommendations to drive economic growth in the ASEAN region through the tourism sector.
During the Breakfast Meeting initiated by the US-ABC as a strategic partner of ASEAN at the Marriot Hotel Yogyakarta on Saturday (4/2/2023), he said that the tourism sector experienced changes from quantity-based to quality-based in the post-pandemic era. Awareness of cleanliness, health, safety, and environmental sustainability is a crucial issue for tourists.
“Challenges in the future will be more complex. Thus, what we will discuss in the ATF Meeting (at the Ministerial level) should provide policy recommendations that will bring tourism issues into the post-pandemic economic recovery plans and as a resilient sector in facing global challenges,” according to Minister Sandiaga.
This Breakfast Meeting began a series of ASEAN meeting agendas at the Ministerial level, which took place at the Marriot Hotel Yogyakarta. Attending this meeting were ASEAN member countries and partner countries, such as ASEAN Plus Three, India, Russia, ASEAN NTOs, and US-ABC members. On that occasion, Minister Sandiaga expressed his appreciation to US-ABC for the collaboration with the MOTCE through cooperation in developing the travel industry, tourism industry, and creative industry implemented into the MoU.
“I would like to extend my appreciation to the US-ABC for your support and contribution to the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum,” he added.
The presence of Ambassador Michael Walter Michalak as a Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of US-ABC at the 2023 ATF showed the importance of the ASEAN member countries as the world economic driver.
“I am pleased to work with all governments within ASEAN, both bilaterally and regionally, to revive and strengthen the tourism industry in the future,” Michael said.
Following the Breakfast Meeting, there will be other additional agendas, such as the Minister Business Luncheon by CNN, Lao Night as an event for the next leadership delegation to Laos, a post-meeting tour for VIP delegates, ASEAN Awarding Ceremony, and Global Modest Fashion Week.
